The federation handles the following missions and functions at the regional, national, EU and international level in terms of security and defence issues:

• Strengthening co-operation and partnerships among members in Latvia and abroad;
• Representing the interests of members in relations with state and local government institutions, organisations and entrepreneurs;
• Informing members about draft policy documents and normative acts which are important for the defence and security sector, also correlating the views of members related to same;
• Providing conclusions and representing the views of members about policy planning documents and normative acts at the relevant decision-making organisations;
• Implementing educational, public relations, research and co-operative events so as to ensure the quality of the security and defence sectors;
• Providing consultations to members about issues that are part of the Federation’s competence;
• Informing society about the goals and operations of the Federation and its members.

For effective, structured and transparent work in the framework of the DAIF Latvia following sectoral committees are shaped:

• Committee on Communication and Cyber Defence,
• Committee on Human Factors,
• Committee on Infrastructure,
• Committee on Transport.

The committees work in accordance with the regulation approved by the Council of FSDI Latvia. Leeds of the committees are also approved by the Council.
